Does anyone remember ask Jeeves? It was a popular search engine back in the day, it's now known as just ask.

Haha I remember askjeeves! I think it was THE engine for more specific and obscure stuff, right?

ah ye, askjeeves was cool, our internet butler, who you could ask an actual question. really good search engine tbh, way ahead of its time, google still be jelly, even though we can now talk to their buttknocker ai servers and have em tell us what they want us to hear, rofl

I remember it. You'd ask questions and they would find the answers for you. Pretty simple stuff. Once Google came around though, there wasn't much chance for ask Jeeves.

Yeah or really any other search engine for that matter sadly. At least duckduckgo is still a thing.

Google smashed everyone of the business and spoiled search engine space, Now it's just SPAMming space. I guess 2-3 players genuinely fighting it out would have given us fantastic search space.

By the way, Askjeeves lives sans jives as ask dot com.

Yeah honestly Google should be broken up as it's becoming a monopoly.

Google has become monster. It's domination of web was extended by advent of chrome & Gmail. But, with Android, they have taken every space in our lives. Now, Our Phones, TVs, Car radios, Our music speakers all run on it. Google is listening wherever you are, watching whatever you are doing, following whenever you are going.

Particularly our phone and speakers, with their camera and mike, are self surrendered stalkers. Just sometimes try speaking Chipotle, Chipotle, Chipotle in ear shot of your phone/speaker!

Yes, Google wanted to upstage Yahoo and came up with clean interface with just search box and interesting name! For Yahoo, to search one had to open an entire page, which wasn't much faster on those days. For google, simple page loaded pretty quick.
