Since their start, the gaming industry has come a long way. While popular belief holds that games like Spacewar or Pong were the first video games, they are now advanced versions of digital or computer games. Let's start with a quick rundown of gaming culture, followed by a look at a couple of the games that helped to shape the industry.

The Cathode-Ray Tube Gadget

Despite the fact that the technology was never commercially viable due to high manufacturing costs, it was awarded the distinction of "first patent for a computer game. The Cathode-Ray Tube Entertainment Gadget lays the groundwork for the first AI (Artificial Intelligence) for an interactive game, Noughts and Crosses, led by Willy Higinbotham's Tennis for Two, which became a openly viewed game. The first commercially distributed computer game, “Spacewar!”, was not released until 1962, and it was then that the idea of video game corporatisation was born. Despite the fact that these computer games/devices never saw the light of day, they remain essential elements of making the next decade one of the most exciting in gaming history.

Old School Gaming

For the most part, Atari really is the more trusted model of video games, having been established in 1972 by Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabney. Apart from creating one of "worst games of all time," the studio was also the backbone of modern video game business. This due to the Pong Arcade Games' popularity. Pong unquestionably paved the charge for arcade gaming, which in part caused the growth of other gaming systems (PC and Console). Just as as we'd like to learn more about the roots of gaming, we'd rather encounter and enjoy some of these fantastic retro games. Most of these games are available for free download to your PC, and you can even play these free pinball machines on your computer.

Pacman

Pac Man, also known as Puck Man in Japan, is an iconic puzzle game created by Namco in 1979 that has gone on to be among the most successful, largest, and greatest series of all moment. Despite not being as well-known as Space Invaders, this yellow pizza-shaped character pursued by ghosts helped develop the Maze Escape Game genre. Furthermore, the game had an impact on the GTA (Grand Theft Auto) series's growth. So, if you're looking to get into the truly immersive world of retro games, Pac Man is a game you can certainly look into.

Space Invaders

Space Invaders is possibly the best Japanese video game which is both famous and legendary. Because of the game's success, there is an urban rumor that Space Invaders caused a 100-yen currency shortage in Japan. Some of gaming's biggest innovators, such as Hideo Kojima and John Romero, were influenced by Space Invaders. Without Space Invaders, games like Blazing Lazers and Raiden, and many other shmups will be extinct. Space Invaders is advisable for gamers searching for a vintage or retro game that influenced some of today's most famous vertical shooters.
